Department of Water Supply & Sanitation (DWSS) plays a pivotal role in ensuring sustainable drinking water services in rural Punjab. As per Cabinet Decision, all rural households are to be provided with piped drinking water supply and individual toilets. Increased exploitation of ground water has resulted in deterioration of water quality and 1188 habitations have been found affected with Arsenic and Fluoride. As such, Department has planned to tap surface water in the affected villages of Patiala, Moga, Rajpura, Amritsar and Fatehgarh Sahib. In the recent past, DWSS has adopted service centric approach to benefit rural masses by providing higher service delivery standards which include longer hours of water supply, volumetric tariff and financial sustainability.
